Become a Volunteer
Are you searching for a rewarding, meaningful, and flexible volunteer opportunity? Do you have a genuine passion for helping others and making a positive impact in the community? If so, please consider joining our mission to rescue and redirect surplus, good‑quality, culturally relevant meals and foods from local food businesses, institutions, and organizations that provide meals or food services—so they reach the many individuals, families, groups, programs, and organizations who need them most, or who can put them to meaningful use and make a real impact.
Volunteers are highly valued and are an essential part of our work and success—we couldn’t do it without your help! As a Meals That Matter volunteer, you’ll be the bridge between food waste and community wellbeing, all while developing and improving your life and job skills. We welcome volunteers aged 13 and up from all walks of life, with a wide range of skills, experiences, and interests to support our work. Please note that no professional experience is required—just a willingness to follow our food safety guidelines, learn, and contribute to our growing food rescue initiative.
Your time and commitment mean the world to us, and every minute you give helps us divert goodness from restaurants, bakeries, cafés, grocery stores, and more—redirecting it from landfills to tables.
Here are the types of volunteer opportunities/positions we currently offer:
- Amicable Ambassadors: Represent Meals That Matter and support community outreach by connecting with local food businesses, institutions, and organizations—encouraging them to donate their surplus, edible food products and/or meals to prevent them from ending up in landfills.
- Food Waste Warriors: Help us raise awareness of climate change, environmental sustainability, food waste, and food‑related social issues like hunger and food insecurity by giving presentations and creating content for our website and social media platforms. Educate the public about the causes and impacts of food waste and promote strategies for reducing it—from household tips to institutional practices.
- Dedicated and Dependable Drivers: Pick up surplus meal and food donations from our partner organizations and deliver them to designated recipients—whether that’s an organization, program, group, family, or individual. Schedules are flexible and tailored to your availability.
Every Meals That Matter volunteer will benefit from:
- Hands‑On Training: One‑on‑one guidance from our Founder & Director to get you up to speed
- Ongoing Support: Regular check‑ins and mentorship to keep you engaged, address any challenges early, and ensure you feel confident, valued, and supported
- Letter of Recommendation: A personalized recommendation from the Founder & Director recognizing your contributions and impact
This structured support ensures you not only make a difference in your community but also grow your own skills and experience along the way.
Whether you’re a high school student seeking community service hours, a professional looking for a hands‑on way to give back, or a retiree ready to share your time and talents, there’s a role for you.
