Looking for food?

Food is more than fuel—it nourishes the body, comforts the soul, and connects us to our culture and community. It is essential for physical, mental, and social wellbeing. Yet every day, perfectly good meals and food products go to waste while many of our neighbours struggle to put food on the table.

At Meals That Matter, we believe everyone has the right to healthy, nutritious, safe, and culturally appropriate food that meets their dietary needs and preferences. That’s why we rescue surplus meals and food products from local food businesses—as well as from institutions and organizations that provide meals or food services—and redirect them to individuals, families, groups, programs, and organizations who need them most (or who can put them to meaningful use). By doing so, we foster sustainability, equity, and community resilience—one meal at a time. This work helps alleviate food insecurity and hunger while reducing food waste, supporting environmental sustainability, and building a sustainable, equitable, and resilient local food system in the fight against climate change.

Health care facilities, health‑service providers, registered charities, nonprofit organizations, community centres, and any group that runs an active food program—or that provides meals as part of health, social, or community services; offers local activities or resources; or feeds its own staff, volunteers, or service users—are invited to sign up.

We also serve individuals, families, and groups across Markham and the Greater Toronto Area—particularly those from marginalized, vulnerable, and underserved communities (newcomers, BIPOC communities, seniors, people with disabilities, etc.)—who may fall through the cracks of traditional food‑assistance channels. Our access is low‑barrier and dignified—no proof of income required.
